Trusting God First

“It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man.”
— Psalm 118:8 (NIV)

Encouraging Message:

It’s easy to trust people because we can see them, hear them, and build relationships with them. But when it comes to trusting God—someone we cannot physically see—we hesitate. We rely on human opinions, validation, and promises, often forgetting that God is the only one who never fails.

The truth is, people will disappoint us, but God never will. He is always waiting—ready to provide, guide, and exceed every expectation.

When we seek Him first, He not only strengthens our faith, but He also places the right people in our lives—people who align with His purpose for us.

Our first trust should always be in Him. Everything and everyone else will fall into place when we lean on Him first.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV):
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

Reflection:

  • In what areas of your life have you placed more trust in people than in God?

  • How can you deepen your relationship with Him today?

Journaling Prompt:

  • Write a prayer surrendering control to God, asking Him to help you trust Him more than anyone or anything else.

Closing Prayer:

Father, I confess that I’ve sometimes placed more trust in people than in You. Today, I surrender that need for control and validation. Help me to lean on You first, knowing that Your ways are always best. Teach me to trust You above all and seek Your presence in every decision. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
