Forgiving When It Feels Impossible – The Power of Forgiveness and How It Sets You Free

In 2016, I experienced one of the worst nights of my life. I was sexually assaulted in my own home—my safe place violated. Fear consumed me. I didn’t know how I would get out, what would come next, or how I would ever recover.

That night, I had to lie in bed next to my abuser, and I hated him. But even more than hate, I feared him. Never in my life had I felt so powerless.

That fear turned into rage. I wanted him to suffer. I wanted him to feel the same fear, the same pain. I questioned God
"Why am I here, so far from my family, where no one could protect me?"

Carrying the Weight of Unforgiveness

For a long time, I carried that hate. It was heavy. It drained me. And the worst part?

💔 He had moved on.
💔 I was the one still imprisoned.
💔 I was giving him control over my peace.

I allowed him space in my mind and heart, long after he was gone. And one day, I heard God say:

"Kisha, when you forgive, I will forgive.
You want
freedom? Forgive and leave it to Me.
Just as you are My child, he is My child. And I will handle him accordingly.
That is not your job. That is not your position.
When you take your hand—your anger, your bitterness—off of My son,
I will wrap you in My embrace and give you more than you need.
I will forgive you.
And you will have the
freedom of My peace, which is far greater than any vengeance you could ever take.”

Forgiveness Is for You, Not for Them

We don’t forgive for others—that is not our concern.
We forgive for ourselves—so we can walk in freedom, in peace, in God’s healing.

Holding onto unforgiveness poisons the soul. It affects our mental, emotional, and even physical health.

But when we release it, when we truly let go and let God, we experience the deep healing that only He can provide.

James 5:16 reminds us:

"Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much."

💡 So that YOU may be healed—not them. YOU.

Walking in Freedom

I won’t tell you forgiveness is easy—it’s not. But it is necessary.

Papa’s peace is greater than any revenge, any punishment, any justice we could seek. And when we surrender our pain to Him, He replaces it with a peace that surpasses all understanding.

If you’re struggling to forgive, I encourage you to release it today. Trust God to handle what you were never meant to carry.

Closing Prayer

Father,

I come before You today with a heavy heart, carrying pain, anger, and unforgiveness. I surrender it all to You. Help me to forgive as You forgive—not because they deserve it, but because I need the freedom of Your peace.

Heal my heart, Lord. Fill every broken place with Your love, grace, and mercy. Teach me to release what was never mine to hold and to trust You to handle what only You can.

I choose freedom today. I choose Your peace.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
