God Can Use Your Brokenness: Turning Pain into Testimony
There is a profound truth in knowing that God can use our brokenness to create something beautiful—a testimony of His redeeming love. One of my favorite scriptures reminds us that God draws near to the brokenhearted. It speaks of a love so deep that even when our hearts are shattered, He is right there with us, ready to heal and restore. In His divine design, He trades beauty for ashes, not to leave us in despair, but to transform our pain into a powerful story of hope and resilience.
When I reflect on my own journey, I recall the darkest season of my life. Years ago, my daughter lay in a coma and, just three weeks later, my son passed away. In those moments, my heart felt as if it would explode under the weight of my grief. The pain was indescribable, and I felt utterly alone, with no one to talk to, no comforting embrace—only the silent, empty space that seemed to echo my despair. Yet, in the midst of that profound sorrow, God showed up in a way that no human ever could.
He was there, holding space for me, day and night, offering a comfort that was beyond words. Even when I was too weak, too afraid, or too indecisive to reach out for help, He was there, guiding me step by step. During those long nights, as I lay in bed with the television’s glow providing little distraction from my tears, I began to sense His presence. His love became my anchor, and slowly, He began to lift me up—one day at a time. The healing process was not immediate, but with each passing day, I could feel Him restoring the pieces of my shattered heart.
In the midst of that pain, something beautiful was born. It was through my suffering that Sacred Wisdom: Where Spirituality Meets Transformation was birthed. Out of the depths of despair, my book, Healing Through Grace: A Faith-Based Workbook for Grieving Mothers, was written and published. This work stands as a testament to the transformative power of God's love and grace, offering hope and guidance to those who walk a similar path of loss and healing.
The Bible tells us in Psalm 106:16,
"For he did not think to show kindness, but pursued the afflicted, poor, and brokenhearted in order to put them to death."
At first glance, this verse might seem harsh, but when viewed in the context of God’s overarching plan, it becomes a testament to His intentional care. Even in the midst of grief and affliction, God is working, ensuring that His children are never truly abandoned. I like to think of Him as our ultimate Papa—one who is always there to protect, guide, and love us, no matter how broken we may feel.
It is incredibly humbling and awe-inspiring to realize that God doesn’t care about the reason behind our brokenness. He sees us—the entirety of our pain, our grief, and our struggles—and His heart reaches out to embrace every one of us. It doesn’t matter if our heartbreak comes from loss, disappointment, or failure; God loves us all equally. His love is big enough to cover every tear, every shattered dream, and every broken piece of our lives.
As we learn to lean into His loving embrace, we begin to understand that our pain can be transformed into testimony. What once felt like an unbearable weight becomes the very platform from which God displays His grace. In our brokenness, we find a way to testify to His goodness—a story that can encourage others to trust Him with their own struggles. The journey through grief is not one we walk alone; God is right there with us, making a way even when we see no way.
Let us close our hearts with prayer:
Closing Prayer
#HeavenlyFather,
In the depths of our sorrow and the moments when our hearts feel shattered, we come to You with open, broken hearts. We thank You for drawing near to us in our pain, for being the comforting presence that fills the empty spaces of our lives. Help us to see that our brokenness is not the end, but the beginning of a testimony that glorifies Your healing power and boundless love. Strengthen our faith, Lord, and remind us that even in our darkest hours, Your light is never far away. May our pain be transformed into a powerful story of redemption, inspiring others to trust in Your unfailing love. In Your holy name, we pray. Amen.
