Letting Go of What No Longer Serves You Spiritually decluttering your life to make room for growth.

We know when something no longer serves us spiritually. But still, we hold on out of comfort. And what happens? We become stagnant in our growth. Why? Because we’re afraid to let go.

God begins to shift us, and sometimes we listen… and other times, we say things like:
“I don’t know why I keep going through the same thing.”

But deep down, if we’re in relationship with God, we do know. We just don’t want to admit it. We don’t want to face it, because we’re comfortable. But comfort isn’t always confirmation—it can be a distraction from what God is trying to do in your life.

Ecclesiastes 3:6 (NIV):
“A time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away.”

We aren’t giving God space to bless us with new opportunities because our hands are too full of what used to be. You’ve heard the saying:

“Stay ready so you don’t have to get ready.”

Well, God is equipping us to be ready—but we’re turning around and sitting on it. Whoa. How’s that working for us?

Yes, I’m speaking to myself too!

Let me get personal: in my heart, I want a new house. But I love the one I’m in. It’s where my son grew up. It holds memories. So I keep finding reasons not to move forward:

  • “I bought this house for under $200k.”

  • “The equity has more than tripled.”

  • “A new mortgage would be ridiculous!”

But here’s the thing: even as I give excuses, God keeps making ways. He’s allowing repairs and upgrades to this home—things I didn’t even budget for.

That’s God preparing me—and I’m the one standing in the way.

I’ve started decluttering—letting go of old clothes and items, because when it’s time to go, I don’t need to bring all of this with me. Even spiritually, this house may no longer serve me. And I have to be okay with that.

My memories? They’re in my heart, not in the walls of a house.

God is saying:

  • “I will provide for your next.”

  • “The equity in this house will open the door for your new one.”

For every negative I’ve spoken, God has given me a positive rebuttal. And in my heart, I know it. But I’ve been holding on to comfort.

So now I say:
Yes, God. A full YES. I surrender to Your complete will.

Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV):
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”

So, Sis—what is God telling YOU to let go of?

What are you holding on to just because it’s familiar?

Are you willing to give God a full YES?

And the big question…
Are we ready to stop being disobedient?

If you need help with this like I do—drop a 💜.
We’re going to walk this out together.

Closing Prayer

Father God, help me to release everything that no longer serves the season You’ve called me into. Give me the courage to let go of comfort and walk boldly into the unknown with You. Teach me to trust that what You’re bringing is greater than what I’m holding onto. I give You my full YES. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
