Surviving the Unthinkable

When we are in survival mode, we act on instinct. We fight. We fear the unknown. We can’t even recognize what help looks like because our judgment is clouded by panic and pain.

I remember lying in a hospital bed after being hit by a car as a pedestrian—a single mother of five—and my mind immediately shifted into survival mode.

"Get me up out of this street!"

I didn’t want my son to see me like that, to be afraid. With the help of two of my older children, I hobbled home, refusing to be still, refusing to acknowledge the weight of what had just happened. The ambulance arrived, took me to the hospital, and even then, my biggest concern wasn’t my injuries—it was my job, my income, my children.

"I can’t afford to be off work. Who will take care of my kids? How will we survive?"

I was so consumed by fear that I couldn’t see the One who had already gone before me. The One who had already made a way.

Fear Not, For I Am With You

Isaiah 41:10 says:

"Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand."

At that time in my life, my relationship with Papa (God) was not what it is today. But even in my distance, He never left me. He still kept His hand on me.

I was so caught up in surviving that I didn’t realize I was already being covered.

God’s Hand Is on You—Even in the Storm

Maybe you’re in survival mode right now. Maybe life has hit you hard, and you don’t know how you’ll make it through. You’re trying to figure everything out, but fear is clouding your vision.

Let me remind you: You are not alone.
No matter where you are in your walk with Him, He is with you.
No matter how uncertain the future looks, He is guiding you.

You will survive this storm. God’s hand is on you.

Take a Deep Breath & Trust Him

I didn’t see it then, but God was already working things out for me. He had already made provision. And He is doing the same for you.

So take a deep breath. Lean into Him. Let Him uphold you with His righteous right hand.

You will survive the unthinkable. And not only that—you will come out stronger.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for always being with us, even when we don’t recognize it. Thank You for holding us up when we are too weak to stand.

Lord, when fear clouds our minds, remind us that You are in control. When we are overwhelmed, help us to rest in Your promises. Teach us to trust You completely, knowing that we don’t have to carry this burden alone.

We surrender our worries, our fears, and our survival mode into Your hands. Strengthen us, uphold us, and guide us through the storm.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
