The Power of Stillness: How Silence Opens the Door to Spiritual Awakening

All of February, I felt utterly useless and adrift—I didn’t know what to do with myself. In that season, God literally had to remove things from my life so I could be still and truly hear from Him. As someone who is naturally busy—a person who loves to work—I found it extremely difficult to slow down. I was constantly on the move, always trying to do something, never pausing long enough to listen. But it was in that stillness that my spiritual awareness blossomed. I began to understand that focusing on God’s Word and building my relationship with Him isn’t just a pastime; it’s a profound and life-changing practice.

During those quiet moments, I learned so much more about my spiritual self and deepened my love for my Father. Trusting God and continually seeking Him allowed doors to open and connections to be made—connections that continue to shape my life today. This is just the beginning of His journey in my life. When we decide to be still and listen to what God is telling us, He clears paths and presents opportunities we could never access on our own.

The Bible reminds us of this power in Psalm 46:10 (ESV):

"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."

There is nothing we can do that God cannot do. When we try to take control and put our hands on His work, we often deconstruct the very process He has designed for us, extending our journey far longer than it should be. I used to be so adept at inserting myself into situations—trying to plan every outcome. I would desperately try to come up with a backup plan: “If this happens, I’ll do that; if that fails, I can do this.” But in those moments, I neglected the powerful truth that God’s plan was already in motion. His Word reminded me in Exodus 14:14:

"The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still."

My Papa already had the plan; my only job was to be still. When I finally embraced this truth, I experienced a transformation in how I approached life. I learned to trust that in my moments of stillness, God is working miracles behind the scenes.

In that same season of stillness, another powerful message resonated with me through Habakkuk 2:

"And the Lord answered me: 'Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.'"

To me, this verse speaks volumes. It tells me to write the vision plainly for God—to set it before Him and let Him take over. When we stop trying to manage every detail and instead surrender our plans to Him, He runs with them. His voice comes clearly in the silence, and He leads us into a future filled with hope and purpose.

Embracing stillness has been one of the most transformative experiences in my spiritual journey. It taught me that sometimes, the greatest act of faith is simply to pause, to listen, and to allow God’s presence to fill the quiet spaces of our hearts. When we let go of our relentless need to control every outcome, we open the door to spiritual awakening and divine intervention.

Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for teaching me the beauty and power of stillness. In the moments when I feel overwhelmed by the chaos of life, remind me to pause and listen for Your voice. Help me to trust in Your perfect plan, knowing that You are working even when I am silent. Grant me the strength to surrender my need for control and to embrace the peace that comes from being still in Your presence. May Your guidance open doors and create opportunities that I never imagined. In Your holy name, Amen.
