The Waiting Season – Finding patience and purpose in delayed answers.
Trust in God because we do not know the time or the place. We wait for healing, financial breakthrough, life success, direction, love, and guidance. We wait not knowing, hoping, wishing, and praying for our time to come. Yet, in the waiting, we grow weary. Our flesh wants to give up. We want to take matters into our own hands.
The devil whispers, "What are you waiting for? You got this. Do it your way." He knows that what God is preparing for us is far greater than anything we could imagine or accomplish on our own. If we move ahead of God's timing, we risk tainting the blessing. We allow "bubble gum faith" to creep in—faith that is firm when things seem good but weak when patience is required.
I have personally struggled with this, especially in the area of love. Feeling unloved as an adolescent led me to develop behaviors in my young adulthood that carried into my late 40s. Imagine that—because today, I am only 51 years old! Yet, in this waiting season, I have found purpose in delayed answers.
For many years, I longed to be a wife. Twice, I moved on my own accord instead of waiting on God, and my children and I suffered for it. Only when I truly built a sound relationship and foundation with God did I learn to love myself first, second only to how He loves me. That is when I found my purpose and was no longer afraid to walk in it.
I know that God gives us the desires of our hearts because He is the one who places those desires within us. "Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart." (Psalm 37:4) If I desire to be a wife, I will be—but only to the one He has called me to be with. Anything less is not His will and will only create another detour on the road to my purpose.
My purpose is simple: to love Him first, share His word with others, and not let my past mistakes prevent me from encouraging others to build their own relationship with God.
Are you searching for your purpose? Have you asked God, "What about me? What do You have for me? What am I supposed to be doing?"
I have asked these questions many times. I have felt lost. I have felt useless. But what I was not doing was waiting and being still to hear from Him. "Be still, and know that I am God." (Psalm 46:10) We must ask the question and then posture ourselves to receive His answer. We cannot hear if we are too busy being busy bodies.
"But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint." (Isaiah 40:31)
Get low. Be quiet. Wait on Him.
This is your waiting season.
Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the waiting season. Though it can be difficult, we trust that You are working all things out for our good. Help us to be patient, to trust in Your perfect timing, and to surrender our will to Yours. Remind us that what You have for us is far greater than what we could ever create for ourselves. Strengthen us in moments of doubt, and help us to be still and listen for Your voice.
We declare that we will wait on You and walk boldly in our purpose when the time comes.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
