Morning Routines That Align with Your Spirit – Setting a foundation for peace and growth.

I already told y’all—self-discipline is not my strong suit, and morning routines are necessary. I love sleep. These are the things I struggle with when it comes to my morning routine. I know routines are necessary, and I know that I have better days when I first spend time with God in the early mornings. Yet, some mornings, I fall short because of all the excuses I allow myself to have.

Every morning, my alarm goes off at 5:30 AM—that is my set prayer time. Directly after that, I am scheduled to read. I have intentionally set aside 5:30 AM - 7:30 AM to spend with the Lord. Sometimes, I am great for days, even weeks at a time. But then, I miss a day, and I beat myself up for it.

I know how my peace is disturbed when I do not set the tone for the day, when I do not give Him my first and my best. We are faithful in tithes, but are we faithful in tithing our time? Just as we give 10% of our earnings, we should also give the first 10% of our day to the Lord. That’s 2.4 hours of our 24-hour day. Is that too much to ask? Especially when you think about what you receive in return—peace, divine guidance, His presence with us throughout the day, and His continual covering over our lives.

I speak from experience. Just yesterday, while taking my daughter to the gym, we exited the on-ramp onto the highway. A young motorcyclist sped past us, weaving in and out of lanes. It was rush hour, so when traffic suddenly came to a halt, I thought nothing of it. But as we got closer, I saw an accident ahead. Immediately, I went into prayer. When I finally saw the accident, I realized it was the same young motorcyclist who had just sped past us. In that moment, my prayer became even more detailed.

This morning, I reflected on how it could have been me who hit him. My morning prayer protected me from being involved in that accident. I still pray that the young man is okay and that there are no long-lasting effects from the accident. But I also thank God for allowing me to have a relationship with Him. And because of that relationship, I still strive daily to maintain my morning routine.

The Bible tells us to do everything as if we are doing it unto the Lord (Colossians 3:23). This sacrificial routine is for Him, but it is also for me—to live a better life, to remain covered under His protection, and to walk in alignment with His will.

Where are the 2.4 hours of your day that you can dedicate to spending time with God and building a routine that aligns your spirit?

Scriptures to Reflect On:

  • "Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." (Matthew 6:33)

  • "This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." (Psalm 118:24)

  • "Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed." (Mark 1:35)

  • "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters." (Colossians 3:23)

Closing Prayer:

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for each new morning, for the breath in my lungs, and for another opportunity to align my spirit with You. Help me to be disciplined in my time with You, prioritizing our relationship above all else. Remove distractions and excuses from my heart, and remind me of the peace that comes when I start my day in Your presence.

Lord, let my morning routine be a sacred offering to You. Allow it to shape me, strengthen me, and prepare me for whatever the day holds. Keep me covered under Your protection and guide my steps according to Your will.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
