The Battle is the Lord’s: Surrendering Fears to Him

Everyone is going through something. Everywhere we look—on social media, in our communities, within our families—we see pain. Death, incarceration, violence, family separation…it all weighs heavy on the heart. And sometimes, the fear of the unknown can consume us.

We don’t know how things will turn out, and that uncertainty can be overwhelming. But here’s the truth: we were never meant to carry the weight of the outcome. Yes, we desire good results, but our role is not to worry—it’s to trust. We are called to give it to God and leave it there.

I’ve experienced fear before—many times. When I closed one business to start another, fear crept in. I had to remind myself over and over:
"God told me to do this, and because I am obeying Him, He will not let me go without."

That’s what surrendering our fears to the Lord looks like. It doesn’t mean fear won’t try to creep back in. Oh, it will! The enemy will always try to stir up doubt, but it’s up to us to recognize it and declare: "No, I gave that to God!" That’s called redirection. That’s called faith in action.

Because of my faith, I’ve walked through many situations that would have otherwise paralyzed me with fear. And I ask myself this:
"How can I call God my Father, say I know who I am in Him, and yet allow fear to have a seat at my table?"

We have so many powerful phrases: "I know who I am and whose I am." But are we just saying these words, or do we truly believe them? If these words don’t yet feel real to you, I encourage you—build your relationship with God until you no longer have a shadow of doubt.

"For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control." — 2 Timothy 1:7

When I was in Texas, sitting in a hospital while doctors rattled off medical jargon I didn’t understand, fear tried to grip me. I felt overwhelmed, excluded—like I was just sitting there while they talked at me instead of to me.

But right there, in the middle of their conversation, I went into prayer.

And let me tell you—that changed everything.

"I sought the Lord, and He answered me and delivered me from all my fears." — Psalm 34:4

After that prayer, clarity came. The fear disappeared. I knew what I needed to do. The worry was gone—it was full speed ahead. I prayed, God gave me the plan, and I executed it. Simple.

We have access to the best consultant in the world—yet how often do we fail to consult Him? Imagine that. We stress, overthink, and panic, when all we need to do is pray and surrender.

God has already spoken on this:

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." — Joshua 1:9

If my Father is with me wherever I go, why on earth would I be afraid?

Think about it this way: when you were a child, standing beside your earthly father, you felt safe. You knew you were protected. But ask yourself—who is his protector?

Our Heavenly Father is the ultimate protector. He never leaves us. He never fails us. And when we surrender our fears to Him, we can walk forward in boldness, knowing that the battle is already won.

Closing Prayer

Father God,

Today, I bring before You every heart that is burdened with fear. Lord, You see the anxieties we carry, the worries that keep us up at night, and the moments when doubt creeps in. But we declare today that we will surrender those fears to You. We will not be afraid because You are with us.

Lord, strengthen our faith so that we do not just say we trust You, but we truly live in that trust. Help us redirect every fearful thought back to Your promises. Let us not lean on our own understanding, but instead, seek You first in all things. You are our refuge, our protector, our guide. We choose to stand on Your Word and walk in boldness, knowing that You fight our battles for us.

In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
